The trouble with angels(1966)
Rated: PG
This cult classic about two girls causing havoc at a Catholic girls school stars Hayley Mills as a trouble-making school girl with "scathingly brilliant ideas" and Rosalind Russell as the long suffering mother superior. Two Christmas scenes reveal a change of heart in Hayley Mills' character. In one she witnesses the seemingly stern mother superior comforting a lonely mother during a nursing home Christmas party. In another she eavesdrops on the nuns' Christmas service where the community sings "Angels We Have Heard On High" with such joy and reverence--well, after witnessing that, who wouldn't want to be a nun? A fun movie with two very moving Christmas scenes. Comment posted on 12/04/2007 by MB - Appleton Library

Penny serenade(1941)
Rated: PG
One of my favorite tear-jerkers. A sweet, sentimental movie starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne as adoptive parents. A pivotal scene occurs when their daughter appears as an angel in her school's Christmas pagaent. I defy anyone to not shed a tear during her performance of Silent Night. Peter Mayle's A year in Provence(1993)
Rated: Not Rated
Based on Peter Mayle's book about leaving the hustle and bustle of the London advertising scene to live in Provence. This A&E production covers the entire first year but starts and ends during the holiday season. The quirky locals and beautiful scenery make this a really fun show. I watch it every year and enjoy seeing these characters make new friends with people very different than themselves. Comment posted on 12/04/2007 by A.J. - Appleton Library

Christmas in the Clouds(2005)
Rated: PG
A very sweet tale of mistaken identity with eccentric characters, romance, humor, and bingo. There are so many connecting threads throughout the movie to pick up and enjoy with each separate viewing. Watch with family and a fine bottle of wine. Northeast Wisconsin's own Sheila Tousey had a hand in production and also plays "Mary" (watch for the big hair). Shot on Robert Redford's breathtaking Sundance Resort where Jeremiah Johnson was filmed. Comment posted on 12/01/2007 by Mike - Keshena Library
